Overview
Asplundh Construction understands that our safety culture and our corporate resources are what prepare our electric, gas, civil and engineering teams for success. The on-time, on-budget completion of your project depends on the safety of our employees and the public. Asplundh Construction's commitment to SafeProduction® promotes safe habits at work and home, while ensuring the success of your project. When it comes to safety, we don’t just talk the talk.
SafeProduction®
What is SafeProduction® and what does it mean for you? We at Asplundh Construction believe that safety and production go hand-in-hand. Over the years, we have found that a safe operation is often the most productive one. Why is that? We believe it’s because the safe work practices that avoid injuries and prevent damage can become second nature -- just like habits that improve efficiency.
In conjunction with our ongoing training and compliance programs, our SafeProduction® culture allows Asplundh Construction to outperform the industry in lowering incident frequency and severity, which helps to maintain lower insurance rates. Let us show you how SafeProduction® brings added value to your project.
Training
At Asplundh Construction, from the newly-hired laborer to the president of the company, safety is first and foremost. All meetings and conference calls begin with a safety message, but we don’t just talk the talk. All of us are expected to walk the walk.
Of course, training is key to safety success. Asplundh Construction employees are encouraged to learn and share safety observations throughout their daily activities and to always take a leadership role in doing the right thing.
In addition to on-the-job safety training, employees receive:
- Ongoing instruction on specific topics like vehicle safety, line-of-fire hazards, first aid/CPR and human performance principles
- Training and compliance support from Regional Safety Supervisors
- Corporate safety messages communicated via 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spots mounted in the vehicle
- Feedback, communicated through Job Behavior Observations
Industry Involvement
In 2008, Asplundh Construction joined the Electrical Transmission & Distribution (ET&D) Strategic Partnership agreement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The primary objective of this partnership is to improve worker safety in the high-voltage electric line construction industry.
CEO Scott Asplundh (standing, second from left, in the photo above) is proud to serve in the ET&D Strategic Partnership, one of only a few national partnerships between employers and the federal job safety agency. Scott and the leadership team of Asplundh Construction wholeheartedly contribute to the development of industry best practices, specific training courses, effective communication of OSHA values and a data analysis program to establish causes of injuries, fatalities and illness affecting an estimated 80 percent of the total contractor workforce in the line construction industry.
